Are you self-conscious about your teeth?

Restore Your Confidence

One of our patients had been self-conscious for many years about the gaps in his front teeth. He had previously been told that he would need 1-2 years of orthodontic treatment to fix his problem but he was unsure that this was the best route for him to go down.

When he came to see Ian at the practice, he wanted a second opinion, they talked through his options and eventually they agreed to try cosmetic bonding instead, as this could be completed in just one single visit and would be much less expensive than orthodontic treatment.

The patient came in for one session and after spending less than an hour treating him, we’re happy to report that he was delighted with the results! He couldn’t believe the difference the treatment had made and felt he could finally smile with confidence for the first time in a long time.

How Cosmetic Bonding Works

In cosmetic bonding a tooth coloured resin (composite) is attached directly to the tooth itself in order to re-build and restore it. The composite is shaped and polished to the correct shape and size until it matches your other teeth. With proper maintenance, the bond should last several years.

Cosmetic Bonding – The Pros

  • Can improve the appearance of any tooth which is decayed, chipped, broken and/or discoloured.
  • It can also be used to lengthen teeth or to re-build and protect part of a tooth where there may be root exposure due to gum recession.
  • It’s a pretty quick and simple procedure and is completed on the same day
  • It’s affordable
  • There is no need to remove any healthy tooth
  • Often no need for anaesthesia
  • It gets great looking results

CosmeticBonding – The Cons

  • Although very durable, the resin is not quite as strong as your natural tooth so it can be damaged if biting nails, very hard foods or chewing pens!
  • Certain food and drinks may cause staining such as tea/coffee/wine, particularly when you’ve just had the treatment.
  • Smoking can also discolour the resin.

Just Remember….

A good oral hygiene routine is important in order to protect your composite bond. Brush your teeth twice a day and visit a dental hygienist for professional cleaning.
