Why have root canal treatment?

If you are suffering from severe tooth pain, root canal treatment can provide immediate relief while simultaneously removing the source of infection and saving your natural tooth from extraction. It is a far more cost-effective solution than replacing a lost tooth with an implant or bridge, and it successfully restores both the function and appearance of your smile.

Dental pulp is the soft tissue in the very centre of your tooth, containing vital nerves and blood vessels. If it becomes infected, you may experience persistent pain, sensitivity or swelling. Endodontic treatment addresses the root cause of these symptoms, clearing the infection and eliminating your pain.

What does root canal treatment involve?

We start by taking a detailed digital X-ray, enabling us to closely examine the root canals of your tooth and ensure the surrounding bone is healthy. We create your precise treatment plan and explain each stage. We also are happy to answer any questions you may have.

We always use local anaesthetic to ensure you stay comfortable throughout the procedure. To maintain a sterile environment, we place a protective rubber dam around the tooth before carefully accessing and removing the damaged pulp. We then thoroughly flush and clean the root canals.

We use small and sterile instruments to shape the root canals before washing again to remove any remaining debris. The space is then sealed with a biocompatible rubber material and a permanent filling to prevent future reinfection.

In most cases, we place a custom-made crown over the tooth to restore strength and provide a natural-looking and durable finish.
