Dentures

Dentures are designed to be durable, but will last much longer with proper care. We recommend removing them at night to allow your gums to rest. Always store them in water or a specialist denture solution overnight, as allowing them to dry out can cause the material to warp or lose its shape.

You should clean your dentures daily using a soft toothbrush or dedicated denture brush to remove plaque and food debris. It is just as important to gently brush your gums, tongue and any remaining natural teeth in order to maintain your overall oral health. Regular check-ups are also essential so we can ensure your dentures continue to fit correctly.

While you are adjusting to your new dentures, try to avoid particularly hard, sticky or very chewy foods. Some people also find that alcohol or very spicy food can initially cause slight irritation. To make eating easier, try cutting your food into smaller, manageable pieces and chewing on both sides of your mouth.

It takes a little practice to feel fully confident while eating. We suggest starting with softer foods and gradually reintroducing firmer textures. You may notice a temporary increase in saliva, but this is a natural reaction and will subside as your mouth becomes accustomed to the dentures.

Initially, certain words might feel a little tricky to pronounce. A great tip is to practice reading aloud or singing at home to speed up the adaptation process. If you notice any persistent sore spots while talking, please let us know so we can make minor adjustments for a more comfortable fit.
