Calming

Reduce anxiety and feel more at ease, making your dental treatment and care much more manageable.

Safe

Our dentists are highly trained and qualified, with safe sedation avoiding the risks associated with general anaesthetic.

Bespoke

The level of sedation is specifically tailored to suit your needs, so you can be sure it works in the best way for you.

Effective

The calming effects of sedation are felt quickly, and can help you forget the treatment process entirely once it’s over.

How does dental sedation work?

If you are avoiding visiting the dentist due to nerves or dental anxiety, IV sedation can help you access the treatment you need without the stress. It is a safe and predictable way to make you feel more relaxed in our care.

IV sedation is administered via a thin cannula in your arm or the back of your hand. It works quickly, so within minutes you will begin to feel more comfortable. You remain conscious and able to talk to us, but in a drowsy state that helps you stay at ease. After treatment, you may not even be able to remember the process at all! If you’re feeling anxious about an upcoming dental visit, talk to us about sedation today.

Treatment steps for your relaxed visit

Assessment

We make sure sedation is appropriate for you during an initial consultation. We check your blood pressure and overall health, and ask some questions about any medications you are on. If we’re happy to continue, we plan your treatment.

Preparation

On the day of your treatment, you need to eat a light meal 2-3 hours beforehand and drink plenty of water. You also need to ensure a responsible adult accompanies you to your appointment and is able to take you home and stay with you for the rest of the day.

Sedation

We administer the sedation via a cannula in your arm or back of your hand. It takes effect quickly and we monitor you closely throughout. Once you feel completely relaxed, we carry out your dental treatment, including administering any necessary local anaesthetic for pain relief.

Recovery

After treatment, it will take a while for the sedation to wear off, and you will need to stay in our practice until your dentist is happy you are ready to leave. We ensure you have brought someone with you to take you home and provide you with full aftercare instructions to ensure your recovery is smooth and comfortable.
