CEREC – what’s that?

CEREC may sound a bit like a sci-fi character but it’s actually an acronym for Chairside Economical Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics. In other words, it can sort out your smile in a quick, cost-effective way using fab looking ceramics.

Developed in Switzerland over 30 years ago, CEREC restorations are fashioned from a single piece of durable, colour-matched ceramic and can be used on teeth that have had very little preparation.

How does this CEREC thing work?

• First, we will prepare the tooth in question, by removing old fillings or restorations and getting rid of any damaged tissue.
• Then, rather than taking messy impressions, we simply scan your tooth using advanced technology in order to create a 3D digital image.
• More computer wizardry is used to design the realistic restoration and data is sent to our on-site machine which is responsible for its creation.
• The resulting restoration is fixed to your tooth using a strong dental adhesive and, voilà, your smile is transformed!

Why’s it so good?

• Top of the list of benefits has to be the speed at which your smart new restoration can be fitted as this means you can take less time out of your life for toothy treatment.
• You only need one set of anaesthetic injections, which can only be a good thing.
• We can keep an eye on the whole process because the restoration isn’t being created in a lab faraway.
• No need for temporary restorations while you wait for your new crown or veneer.
• It’s more economical as you will need fewer appointments and there are no external lab costs.
